The 289 always looked so lithe & beautifulLove this. Two answers to exactly the same question, but a few decades apart.
Carrol Shelby never wanted to fit the 'big block' engine in the Cobra after all the 289 is over 4,500cc and produces plenty of power, the 7 litre engine was too big and heavy so upset the handling of the car.The 289 always looked so lithe & beautiful
Mind you, I wouldn't turn one downThe Shelby Cobra 427 S/C is ugly compared with the 289 or AC ace.
I have never understood why the majority of kit cars or replicas are of the 427
