Do they mean by bank transfer?
Pop into a Halifax branch with the seller's details, ask them to check for fraud as well.
I wouldn't make the purchase if I was you, but you never listen to my advice on CC, maybe the bank will talk sense into you

It could be that the wording you are using is not acceptable to the form: they normally state the minimum amount of characters you need, if you must use special characters, etc.

If it is just not properly skipping to the next field when it should it is probably the bank's problem

but try another browser - i.e. Firefox or Chrome (or Edge if you get desperate

BUT - be careful - check it is a secure site and all that
I did hear about a phishing site that LOOKED like a proper bank site but was designed to not work properly on a "retype" field so it could capture your data and look like the bank was at fault

so - as above - ring the bank

I'm trying to open an online banking account with the Halifax bank. I already have a current account with them, but I'm finding it difficult to get past the below stage to open an online account. When I type in my mother's maiden name, or my dad's middle name it asks me to re-enter memoral information. That's where I get stuck! I delete either name I'm trying, type it again, but it just shows re-enter memoral information, with the Next key faded, not responding to me touching it. What am I doing wrong? I tapped the Back key, only to go back to creating both a username and a password. Another question. I left it for a while, then on going back to it, it had gone back to the start of the applying process, I presume to prevent and possible fraud. Therefore does that mean it hasn't stored my bank details I'd successfully sent? I'm always wary of fraud, even with supposed fraud proof online sites! I really don't want to create online banking as I don't trust it, but I'm making a substantial purchase and the seller says the only way I can pay for the item is via online banking. I suppose in the 'old days', we'd go into such as the Halifax Building Society and get a was it a banker's draught or something, which was like a cheque. Then you'd hand it over to the seller, or something like that.🤔

Halifax are part of Lloyds.
Their system is the chocolate cash machine of banking.

Try Starling, they do very well for me. Simple, feels safe and inexpensive.

By complete chance I am your Bank Manager. Just PM all those bank details across and I will get my best team onto it on Monday. I often find that opening the account in Kampala does the trick, so I will transfer your funds there for you. My African Prince brother handles that end. Charming fellow.

I'll try it later with a different name, but this time with numbers added, on the Memorial Information bit. Though it didn't say my first two names weren't 'strong' enough, it just didn't do anything after I'd typed them.🤔

i'd walk away from any deal that required money transfer to an unknown/unverifiable seller

At first the seller just texted me his bank account details, asking me to make the payment by texting my details and payment to him!😲

The Halifax app is a nightmare. I got so fed up with it I didn't use it for a couple of years. I got Mrs D to sort it for me in the end.

Also I'd not be entirely comfortable using online banking for a purchase, especially a large one, unless I knew the seller.

I don't know the sellers, but they are a reputable car dealership, so their reviews say online. It's not a private sale as such.🤔

Just be aware Halifax are a mare for bank transfers, even to reputable businesses that date back as far as ww2.

The twits wouldn't do the 18k bank transfer I needed when I bought the camper. In the end I lost my rag with them and drove up there and paid the 18 large using a debit card on the same account they refused to do the bank transfer from. While I was there another chap came un to do the same and he was also a Halfax  victim customer.

The word they're looking for doesn't have to be long, or complicated. They'll choose three of them, from what you chose, when it comes to asking you to verify the account.
Too long or complicated and it'll make it harder for yourself, not anyone else.

Well yes, surely I could make the payment with my Halifax card, giving my 4 digits etc. Having said that, I think it'll be best to go into my nearest Halifax branch. I could phone the Halifax helpline, but I don't even trust that to be totally fraud proof.
