I like Skol

A Minging Manc...
Think I'll leave the bike tucked up in the warm tomorrow
Again!

I, on the other hand, am looking forward to an exciting and challenging commute tonight and tomorrow. Bike is checked over, chain wiped and oiled and I am ready to rock'n'roll :hyper:

I've a quiet week and so I'm trying to tackle those jobs I hate.... Like tidying/cleaning the house, so a little bad weather could be good for me, stopping me from ambling outside, if only I could keep off the computer!

@SatNavSaysStraightOn does the weather improve at all if you sit at college and eat lunch?
Sadly not for many hours and then only by a few mph, plus there are three obvious issues related to food and college and my dairy allergy... I think tomorrow might be a lycra day for cycling rather than my normal clothes which I usually do for college... That way I will have something dry to suit in for 2 hours... Now sitting at my parents home thinking about which strava segments will be worth taking a shot at tomorrow.... I'm 2 nd on one local one but need to up my average from 31 kph to 38 kph to get the QOM... Now wind assisted with panniers and waterproofs I might just stand a chance! who am I trying to kid?

ahhh, another thread has just made me check it again.... guess what - they have upped the figures yet again... +55mph gusts inland and coastal areas worse 30mph headwind on the way home - the Cheshire gap could make life interesting if there is enough north in the wind... and I still have the 'threat' of thunder and hail as well!

I find once you are out in the wind usually it is not so bad. That said I was blown to a standstill a couple of times last year in the 30 minutes that St Judes Storm blew through. :hyper:

I have been blown off my bike before now... over in Northern Ireland my fully laden touring bike and myself were lifted up and dumped on the grass verge sadly at horizontal not vertical, but the Irish faeries were looking after me that day and kindly dumped me in the only gap in the dry stone wall which just happened to be lined with moss and soft grass instead of hard rocks!

In the far north of Norway I have had conditions where I couldn't keep the (same fully laden touring) bike on 2 lanes of tarmac irrespective of any vehicles around us - luckily very far and few... That was an interesting 2 days of cycling and I learnt a lot about cycling in high winds and rain... I also learnt that I was more than happy to spend the night and sleep in a public toilet if really needed... We now categorise everything against those 2 days. "As bad as the 888?" is the question... (the 888 was the road number we were on at the time btw.)

tomorrow will be "interesting" but not as hard as either of the 2 Norwegian days: It should only be as bad as the Northern Ireland day... several times that day we were forced to a complete halt by wind as well...

(I make no guarantees that I will be feeling the same way this time tomorrow though - there is a local railway bridge prone to flooding & mudslides which I need to negotiate and also another couple of roads that are rather prone to fallen trees and my only alternative is the A556 (NSL dual carriageway which I won't cycle under normal conditions!). I suspect tomorrow will be more of an assault course than anything else - assuming I can even get out of my lane in the first place...

Bike will be going nowhere this week!
Tomorrow - 60mph north westerly gusts with showers. Heavy rain all day Wednesday, same again Thursday. I need to emigrate; British weather is depressing. More specifically, west of Scotland weather .
+1 to that. Not quite as bad in Glasgow tomorrow ('only' 50mph) but this week is a total wash-out. I don't mind getting bit wet, but windy & wet, hmmm no thanks. Unfortunately, that is pretty much the default weather for the next few months, only broken up in the middle by some icy stuff. Hats off to those who plod on regardless, but my mileage has already been poor this year, and it's about to get considerably worse.

It must be a state of mind, I usually go out against my better judgement then spend half the time cursing myself and the wind. :cold:

Edited to add: just been to take the dog for a walk and it's pretty mild (and dry) right now, must be the calm before the storm!
