I was on the MTB, heading to the towpaths today.
I have to cycle for about a mile on a main road, which is quite fast and has those road narrowing sections, to stop speeding motorists.
As I was approaching one, I checked behind me. There was a car there (which I had heard before I checked), so a few seconds later I checked again, just so he'd get the idea that I was there and was going through.

So what does he do? On my third check he has pulled out and is in the position to pass me!
I held my position and shouted (more for my benefit!) "Stay where you are you f*cking a-hole" (or similar!)
Right after the narrowing is a RH filter which I was taking, so I indicated and got into it.
He passed me just as I got into the filter lane and I noticed his window was down.
The 'f*cking a-hole' didn't look too happy

Glad it's not just me that uses most unladylike language on the bike then!

Brilliant story SL.....I did something like that on a night ride through the town a few years back . This BMW came out of a side street and very nearly broadsided me to which i called the driver a " stupid feckin Bar steward " . I kept on my journey and the BMW caught me up and i heard the noise of an electric window being lowered and to my horror behind the wheel of the car was the biggest scariest looking bar steward i've ever seen. Quickly trying to think of an escape route you can imagine my total surprise and relief when scary bar steward started to grovel an apoligy in my direction, to which i repiled trying to to sound cool " ok just pay more attension you nearly had me over your bonnet " After he'd passed i thought about my reply and was glad he hadn't seen the inuendo in my comeback.:notworthy:

I honestly believe few of these guys mean any harm. They just don't allow for the fact that you are moving and are traffic. You get regarded as the equivalent of a post box or a street light and they get a big surprise to find you are sentient, fragile and moving. No harm whatever in reminding them!
Exactly.
I could see what he was trying to do so I held my position...he was not going to take me from the rear! Erm......

I've been swearing like crazy the last two weeks. I even swore in front of (but not at) a kid who was walking passed. I stopped and apologized. He seemed unbothered.

In some cases I think some motorist don't appreciate quite how fast a road bike can travel, for example one road near me has a 30 mph limit, it's quite easy to ride down it at 22 to 25 mph.
