I was listening to RTE Radio 1 on 252 kHz long wave earlier and they're running a non-stop Ophelia news programme.
One story they just covered is that some windsurfers have just had to be rescued off the Co. Louth coast - how dumb must you be to windsurf in that?!

The transmitter mast for RTE Radio 1 is about 750ft high so I expect it's getting a proper battering - I'd be surprised if the station stays on air for much longer.

just how dumb can some people be, with no thought for the poor buggers who go out to rescue them :cursing:

Cracking a solo.
I don’t understand the “excitement” surrounding this storm. Yesterday my wife asked me “Do you think we should do anything to prepare?” I replied we’ve been together nearly 40 years and never done before.
Perhaps it depends where you are in the UK, gusting over 70mph here.

The day here is dull and orange. There's no doubt there's a storm on the way.
I saw the sun an or two hour ago and hoped to get a chance to take a picture. Outside servicing the car just now when the clouds parted momentarily......

To be honest, the camera doesn't quite catch the orangyness of it and I suspect if I had messed about with the shutter speeds and stuff I may have done better but the clouds rolled back in before I had time to try.

A strange morning. I stepped outside and it was like stepping off a plane on holiday (it was very warm). There was also a spooky glow. Now in Plymouth it is sunny but the wind has got up a bit

MET Ireland issued a warning saying anyone who has to travel today should take some blankets, a sleeping bag, some extra clothing, including a scarf, hat, gloves, warm fleece, a flask of hot water, 24 hour supply of food and drink, a torch, spare batteries, a fully charged mobile phone & portable charger, a hot water bottle, a tow rope, a filled petrol can, a first aid kit and a set of jump leads.

I looked like a right clown getting on the bus to work this morning.

Trying to work out which way I should head for the land speed record attempt and I think I have 3 options;
  1. A62 dropping into Marsden.
  2. A635 (The 'Isle of Skye' road) into Holmfirth.
  3. Holme Moss down towards Holmfirth.
Each road has it's merits but I reckon the A62 probably has best chance of me breaking my previous 55mph record.

That's all gone now and the sky has cleared but the wind is steadily picking up.
