As a mountain biker I was a big fan of Suntour XC Pro thumbshifters, not just because I liked the name but also because I liked their tiny jewel-like character and minimalism. I've just thrown away three old sets which had lost the friction on the LH shifter.

Anything with Campagnolo on it.

Ah...but...do you pronounce it as Cam pag nollo or as Campanyolo?

Depends whether you're in posh company or not.

As long as you don't call it "Campy".

I'm an Italophile and recall visiting Ellis Briggs cycles who were an authorized Campag dealer.

I mentioned a 'Cam pan yolo' part and the owner, lifelong cycling enthusiast in his 60s, couldn't understand what I said. It took a couple of attempts and he said in his broad Yorkshire accent: "you mean Cam pag nollo?".

I chuckled and daren't correct him.
