My Bri-Nylon shirts and polyester slacks don't need ironing...

I hate ironing with a passion having had to do lots of it when I was in the Army. I commute every day and could not be bothered to wash,Iron and carry my clothes to and from work. Dress code for me has to be smart ie proper trousers and shirt . There is a Cleaners just beside work, I pay 23 quid a week for 5 shirts +1 pair of trousers , washed Iron and hung. Luckily I have a wardrobe in the office so can keep 2 weeks worth of clothes hung up. I save around 100 quid a week cycling ( parking 9 quid, train 14 quid + fuel to get to station) so am happy to pay it and save the time. Its london prices (Canary Wharf) . My mother in Law offered to do it cheaper but refuses to deliver it to work.

Wondering if you might have to invest in a whole load of coat hangers... I wonder if the best thing would be to get a whole load of plastic ones of a particularly noticeable colour, and ask for them to be returned with the next batch of ironing. Like milk bottles.

I was thinking that too. A trip to somewhere like poundland or similar and get a whole bunch or research the cost on the wire ones and tag them with a bright coloured tape and ask for them to come back to me.

£20 a basket sounds quite a lot but, a basket can hold a lot so probably a fair price. Interesting that people pay a cost per garment too. I shall look further in to that and see what other ironing services use. I know that they are out there, in the country, so some must post their prices on the web.

Start-up costs would not be huge. I do need a new ironing board as it appears that the old one is on it's last legs now. My other ironing board seems to have gone missing (I had a poshy new modern one and still have an old 1950s wooden one, inherited from my Gran, that's the one that is mostly knackered). Hangers, flyers that I can deliver myself. I am really giving this some serious thought. Even the ride buddy/BF chappy seems to think that it could be an idea.

You might be surprised how much can be squeezed in if you charge "by the basket" - I'd imagine it could be on a par with the amount of food that can be piled on a plate at an all you can eat buffet. ^_^

And what if it was a basket full of things that were really fiddly to iron?

Yep. We have a lady collect all our washing once a week and returns it 2 days later washed, ironed, folded and separated into mine, Mrs pplpilot and the children's. The same lady also cleans our house top to bottom once a week. Life is too short for such mundane stuff, for me at least, and if I'm brutally honest we cant be arsed. As long as I can afford it to continue I'll do so. Not sure how much it costs Mrs pplpilot does our household finances.
