Being Scottish and growing up in the 80s I got sick of the response to, 'What's it called?..............Cumbernauld'. You really had to been in Scotland at the time but trust me it was extremely tiresome.
Particularly since it's actually pronounced Cummernaud

Step up to the plate ... we need to have a conversation ... around issues … on a level playing field.
American in nature. ‘Stepping up to the plate’ is what a baseball player ( batter ) does when he’s about to face the pitcher ( the plate is the metal square by his feet). ‘On a level playing field’ again was a baseball term originally.
