I've got myself a new expedition bike.
It came with toe clips and straps which I thought I would give a try but having fallen off twice am rather thinking of going back to plain platform and SPD pedals.
Over the years I have bought a couple of sets of the Shimano M324.
As here.

A good pedal but I'm a tad put out by the fact that servicing the bearings needs a special tool that costs more than the pedals.
So I would rather like something of similar quality that can be serviced with normal tools.
The search is complicated by the fact that shops bricks-n-mortar and online can be somewhat vague on this issue - in fact when I bought my first pair of M324s I was told that they were user-servicable - which, er, isn't exactly the case.
Anyone know anything about these contendors?:
System Ex EM15

or Decathlon offering which on the face of it looks very similar to the Shimano and, according to the pics, comes with reflectors which are an add-on on the Shimanos

or maybe there are others?
So, in summary I'm interested in the quality of the other contendors and (vital) their servicability with normal tools.
I realise that this is a bit of a niche enquiry, as I rather have the idea that many on here never service their pedals or just buy another set when theirs develop faults.
Have been living in hope that Shimano will redesign the internals of the M324s but there seems to be no immediate prospect- Evans has them on clearance but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
