I'm sure there is a genuine reason. He did say he reads this forum regularly, so I thought I'd try. TBH it only cost a few quid and I've just replaced it so I'll not lose sleep.
hopefully someone will do the same for me one day.

I think the same. What goes around comes around. I would lend one out in the hope that if it happened to me I would get one in return.

However I remember once I had three punctures on one ride, and just two tubes!

I gave someone a tube once but have never received recompense. To be fair though, the poor bloke was out of his two tubes he brought + one off someone else... I made sure he checked the tyre on the last time... Never seen him since.
