Am thinking of buying one of these immenently but can't find any reviews on them. I always like to do a bit of research before splashing the cash...

Does anybody have any experience of these jackets? They are supposed to be waterproof and breathable. My belief is that Polaris are/were a decent manufacturer but they seem to have disappeared a bit in recent years.

Thanks

I have a different Polaris jacket, and their waterproof over-trousers, which are both made of Hydrovent like the Satelite. Have been very happy with both and am pretty impressed with Hydrovent in terms of both breathability and waterproofness.

Having said that, my experience of Polaris clothing is that it can be a bit hit and miss in terms of styling and cut so I would definitely want to try something on before buying (or at least be sure I could return it if necessary).

Polaris always have a big stall at the CTC rally in York in June selling "end of range clothing". There are usually some really good bargains to be had, but also some fashion disasters which make you wonder about their design and marketing departments.

Thanks Danny - I've actually just ordered a Montane Stormrider with a pretty good discount (end of line I suppose) from AW Cycles. Hasn't arrived yet and I'm a bit nervous having bought it online without trying one on first. However, I was assured I could return it if it didn't suit and it was free delivery.

It's still very expensive by my standards and I find myself wondering how much some people must hate getting wet to spend the money some of these jackets are at retail priced at.

It was the breathability/eVent fabric and small pack size that tempted me.

What actually goes on at the York rally? I've never been, living 250 miles away. Perhaps this should be a new post.

My new jacket turned up this morning - I was nervous about the fitting but it's absolutely perfect and I'm delighted.

Just for once I'm now willing it to rain!

You may be interested to know Polaris are going strong.
I found a great site which specialises in selling most of their stuff.
See www.cycleclothinguk.com
I had a Satelite jacket and it's great.....keeps the rain out but breathes fairly well too.
Best rain jacket I've had anyway.
I'd recommend the site above....the service was spot on....goods arrived within a day or two.
