It does not work that way. OP from his description did not seem to suffer any injury but the drunk guy lost teeth. All the chap and his mates have to do is say that stay were having a bit of fun. Unless OP has witnesses that say that the gang was out to get him and he fought valiantly, I would suggest that he would have no hope. It is the like farmer who went to jail for firing at Gypsies who entered his property to burgle.
Illegally held pump action shotgun and shooting people fleeing from the scene, killing one of them. Not really comparable is it.

I don't usually like to argue, but this, and every other post to the effect that you risk being charged is utter, utter bollocks. Tony Martin shot a fleeing burglar with an illegally held firearm and left him to die.

And? Come on tell us the rest.

Isn't that the point - he went overboard. Tony Martin deserved to be charged. If OP does not have any witness to support him and the the guy who lost his teeth insist on pressing on charges what do you as a Police Officer do after the medical report confirming missing teeth lands on your desk?

My scum bag druggy brother came back from Spain to find my mother had been put into home. He stabbed my other brother (nothing serious) who was over from the U.S. Obviously because his money bank was gone (mother).
No witnesses, he got two years. His story was ludicrous. The jury were out for 2 hours.
They would, the ones that attacked you have to supply an excuse for attacking you...none available.
He the druggy said my US brother had the knife. All the other evidence said he was bullshitter.
I sent him a Christmas present in jail. Extra slippy soap for the shower.

Is that world you would like to live in?
It's the world that he and the rest of us have no choice but to live in. The OP sorted the problem satisfactorily without involving the police, job done.

You know that may make them more aggressive towards cyclist in the future? They might put some planning into it and do a better job. Your post is encouraging that?

The lad who lost the teeth will no doubt be claiming he was attacked walking home and he will end up with compensation for his injuries..

I admire anyone who has the courage to join the Very thin blue line these days..
