Thread hijack, my favourite German word is Stumpfgleis, which is an island platform as opposed to a through platform. There are some Basle IIRC and Brunero (sp?) and Swindon.
That would be a bay platform, surely?
An island platform would almost always be a through platform - it's just one in between the two tracks, rather than one on each side.
Cambridge has two or three bay platforms, as well as a very long through platform.
