They pulled down my local, The Magazine Hotel in Newarke St. Leicester. Grade 2 listed, I believe that cost the developers a £1000 fine.

Just what the world needs, another Premier Inn.
Developers here in Carlisle care watching a mansion fall to bits while they wait to developed it ...

I was going to have a rant about this as soon as I saw the thread. I lived in student accommodation just up Oxford Road when I first moved to Manchester, The *sticky knickers* was my favourite local. It is a travesty what happened to it and 20+ years later it still grinds my teeth.

There were quite a few clearly not regular wear pants, maybe a bit of an urban myth or once word got around people coming in and making the offer?I went in there years ago and saw the knickers. Story was that ladies going into the pub were persuaded to part with said underwear and they were then pinned to the ceiling beams, knickers that it, not said ladies......
Makes you proud to be a Brit!
