I'm not saying the Albion in Woolwich is a bit rough, but after two seperate murders they had to replace the swerley sticky carpet !

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
I always meet 2 or 3 friends in the pub on Monday evening, something we have been doing for 18 years. During that time we have moved from one pub to another and now to a third, due to the way they are run. One was taken over by a chain and is now run on a shoestring and frequently runs out of one or more types of beer, another went downhill when a new licensee took over and the third, to where the former licensee of the second moved, has thrived and become a great community pub. I also call in there for a pint (or 4) 2 or 3 other nights a week. There is almost always someone there to have a pint, a natter and a laugh with.

Prices in pubs are also very interesting. In one pub up the road, a pint costs £3.50 for bitter or lager, Guiness is more, the current favoured local charges £3.00 for any beer with an A.B.V. less than 4% and £3.10 if 4% or above, and the matchday pub where we go before and after the match during the footy season charges £2.00 for bitter and £2.20 for lager and Guiness, which is exceptional value these days.

The prices in our local pubs were fairly uniform ( except Sam Smiths which was always cheaper) untill Wetherspoons opened, now there are several pubs with decent beer at under £2.00 a pint.

Less than £2 a pint, any houses for sale near you?

I have just remembered we had a short break in Durham a couple of years ago, during the Olympics, and found a pub there, at one end of a bridge over the River Wear just outside the city centre. I was charged around £3.00 for a pint of Sam Smith's and half of lager for my wife and thought I they forgot to charge for the lager, but when I asked the price of the drinks individually, they said the Sam Smith's was £1.60......RESULT!!!

Usually Holts pubs where beer is still affordable. I enjoy sitting down and having a yarn; the first pint always seems to go down very fast.

It still surprises me when visiting some Wetherspoon pubs in London the prices they charge. Keep thinking they have undercharged me.

only problem with wetherspoons is a large proportion of the clientele . i.e. those who made a different lifestyle choice regarding acohol. and yes it is a fine line that can be wandered

Being in 'leafy' Bromley.. the clientele in the local Wetherspoons hostelries are more often then not pretty good. Compared to the one in Greenwich near to my work, which looks like a drop in center for some of the dregs of society.

Leytonstone - Walnut tree seems to have taken the place of Leytonstone house Mental health unit, and Baxters court in Hackney similar for the unit at Homerton.

which is a pity as they have some great guest beers
