Had a look at the tyres, and saw no obvious causes, now got 2 new slime inner tubes fitted. Now looking for 2 good 26 x 1.75 tyres with good grip for all types of surfaces and as puncture resistant as possible - any ideas?

Schwalbe marathon or marathon plus.. As near to puncture proof as any pneumatic tyre gets.

Both are good. Marathon plus have armoured sides as well as Marathon's armoured tread, but are consequently heavier and more expensive. Which you think best will depend on if you are scared enough of punctures to suffer the weight and expense of plus. Personally, I ride Marathon or even the next level down.
