Can you not get it re-threaded?
I just put a threadless cartridge in it, there's not much point in doing anything now, I haven't ridden it in over five years.

Thanks for that - I didn't know that they existed! I will get one for the bike I use on my turbo trainer which has a damaged BB shell.
They're supposed to be notorious for coming loose, but I don't really know, as mine (an Oxford PT-6622) only did 1158 miles before I gave up cycling.

Never seen it my self but I saw a mate for the first time in ages in a cafe. He was telling me that he got given a bike from another mate who has had to give up cycling. He tells me the bike is a death trap with a cracked head tube and he also said that the bike had been serviced annually by a lbs.

Like an MOT it doesn't guarantee it's roadworthy the next week!

Obviously not but I'm not taking my bike there; another bike shop said it'd been there for a while and wrote the bike off!

Took my bike into a shop for the headset to be replaced, why they decided to feck about with my brakes I've no idea. The front brake cable was pulled so tight the blocks were on the rim without even pulling on the lever. The rear brake was so loose the blocks wouldn't even touch the rim.

I emailed them and explained the issue and they advised me to bring the bike back and they'd sort it. I replied and politely told them that i would never let them touch my bike again and that I would never advise anyone to use their repair services. They shut down within a year.

Same LBS but before i got the headset done... I went in with the bike for a new cassette. The guy asked if it was a freewheel or freehub. "You tell me." I replied, since he was stood right next to the bike. Confidently he said it was a freewheel and sold me one. Twenty minutes later I'm back in the LBs swapping the freewheel cassette for the freehub I needed.

I've never really had any issues- for a long time I used the same LBS and I had maybe six or more wheels built and a number of services/ repairs (I can work on bikes up to a point, but sometimes I don't like to).
