As I said, Con Artists. :okay:

In as much as all advertising is con artists. It’s no different except that for certain brands it’s incredibly effective and successful.

The majority of major brands have an influencer marketing budget. It helps reach large numbers who don’t watch tv or read magazines in the way we did 10 years ago. You want to sell your product to under 25s? Then it’s social media and influencers.

If you thinks it doesn’t work because you don’t like it, that’s your problem but you’d be wrong. It does work. Really well. It’s just you’re not their target market.

As I said, Con Artists. It's not my problem. Just an observation. I'm nobody's target audience. I've never bought a brand because I've seen it advertised.

That’s not how brand advertising works. Test yourself. Think of a good quality washing up liquid. Or car. Or tin of beans. Or cola drink. Or a brown sauc You may not buy them. You may prefer the own brand alternatives. But I bet your mind instantly thought of the core brands who spend a fortune on advertising. And that’s enough to get a return when people are thinking of a purchase.

WHich is why you sometimes see an advert that seem to have naff all to do with the product

it is just there to remind people of the brand and cement the reputation

even if you don;t think you are vulnerable
what comes to mind if you see a documentary about meerkats?
(or - for that matter - what have you just thought!)

Exactly. And even more so it just makes the connection between the brand and the product. Or the situation and the product. Over and over. It’s not a direct plea.

If you want to buy, let’s say, a washing up liquid. You’re in the supermarket. Your eyes fall on the well known brand. Now many people may then move on from that and look at them all or buy the cheapest. But enough people will just grab what they know. And even more than that, many will buy the cheaper alternative as they think the brand options are better but not worth it. But the marketing in making you think it is better is also powerful enough.

When I was working with a lot of computer in schools then we often had to decided what to buy

HP were always a problem
they seemed to vary over time and they would be excellent for a while
then seemed to have decided to cut manufacturing costs and the casing and general quality dropped
and kids are very good at destroying laptops
(as are teachers for some reason!!!)
then it went back up again

but people always though they were good
but then they didn;t have to fix them!!

Serious question. How do you dispose of old, past any useful life, railway sleepers?

Nope! None of those came to mind. Beans - Sainsbury's cos that where I shop. Cola Drink - Sainsbury's cos that's where I shop and its like 49p for 2 liters. Brown Sauce - as before. Car - Skoda cos that's what I drive. I'd probably get another on at some point because I've had a good experience with it. I literally never think of advertising when I'm looking for a new product. I might look at online reviews or go into a shop to compare build quality. Clearly I'm a lost cause.
