There were Vauxhall dealerships in Northern Ireland and Opel dealerships in the Republic selling identical cars. They were probably made on the same production line. It must have been done for a reason.
The reason being that the UK was used to the name Vauxhall. That was the rebadging, not the use of Opel in the Republic of Ireland. It was (and is) Opel everywhere in the world except the UK.
Both brands were part of General Motors for many years, (now they are part of the Stellantis group) and since around 1970, the cars have all been designed in Germany, and the models have been identical apart from some minor styling differences for the UK. But called Opel everywhere they are sold apart from the UK.
