There were Vauxhall dealerships in Northern Ireland and Opel dealerships in the Republic selling identical cars. They were probably made on the same production line. It must have been done for a reason.

The reason being that the UK was used to the name Vauxhall. That was the rebadging, not the use of Opel in the Republic of Ireland. It was (and is) Opel everywhere in the world except the UK.

Both brands were part of General Motors for many years, (now they are part of the Stellantis group) and since around 1970, the cars have all been designed in Germany, and the models have been identical apart from some minor styling differences for the UK. But called Opel everywhere they are sold apart from the UK.

Is it the 'straight and narrow' or the 'strait and narrow'? I would have thought it was the 'straight and narrow', but I saw 'strait and narrow ' in a book.

There were Opel Mantas sold in this country. I’m assuming they were re-badged Vauxhalls. I knew someone who had two of them, both red.

Both Mantas and Asconas did come into the UK but they were slightly different appearances to the Cavalier of the time.

I worked in the Vauxhall network at the time and GM did have some dealerships "double badges" Vauxhall and Opel.

I think GM saw a sales opportunity on the back of the rally success of the Manta 400 / Ascona 400.

I myself had an Ascona at the time as Cavaliers were ten a penny and the Ascona was a bit more "exotic" even if it was identical under the skin.

Why do the BBC still have non HD channels?
Is there any one who doesn’t have an HD TV now?
It’s been a thing for 20 years.

Well I remember people still occasionally having black and white tvs in the early 90s, so...

There are still a few basic TV sets on sale which are not full HD, and plenty around in homes. Our main TV was described as "HD Ready", but could not receive HD over the air. It can show HD via a device which connects with a HD cable. Though it is probably close to 20 years old-

If a car park is free but starts charging for parking at 09:00 and I arrive at 07:00 and purchase 1 hour does that mean I'm OK until 10:00am (or have I wasted the money)? 🤔

Ringo Starr was made a knight of the realm. So is he Sir Ringo or Sir Richard? He is married to the lovely Barbara Bach, who was a Bond girl. So is she now Lady Ringo, Lady Richard, Lady Starkey or Lady Starr?
