Why do some people load the supermarket trolley with pack upon pack of water in bottles, don’t they have a tap? This is seen on a weekly basis where we live in Derby.

In some places the tap water is undrinkable. In Fermanagh it used to taste like peat. It would have been great for making whisky though.

Blue Riband biscuits. Is it pronounced Rye-band or Riband? My partner pronounced it the same as ribbon, with a D on the end. I always thought it was R(eye)band. Presumably only the manufacturers know for sure

I know I already answered previously, but, Chris Tarrant here certainly pronounces it with a 'D'.

My Grandpa always insisted it was 'Blue Riband' ('ribbon' with a 'd') too and he would have seen all the newsreels and so on from back then to know how they said it. 🤷‍♂️

Ah, now, my Grandpa used to tell us it is Blue Riband (or 'Ribind') and is apparently named after the award given to the fastest trans Atlantic crossings by the ocean liners back in the day.
Or so he always told us anyway, we never thought to actually find out 😆

She eventually stopped, but she must have spent an absolute fortune (she was very, very wasteful anyway).

My water supply is terrible and tastes awful. I have had the supplier out twice to test it and they tell me its fine.
Therefore I drink bottled water and for tea/coffee I have a filter jug.

I have been watching a bit of The Big Bang Theory recently. I understand the characters are geeks and nerds of all stripes. I understand Sheldon is autistic. I understand that they are scientists and engineers, but that they enjoy geeky activities in their spare time, such as comics, Dungeons and Dragons, and science fiction TV series like Star Trek and Dr Who. What I don't understand is how Sheldon's character could stomach the completely rotten science in some of those sci-fi series. I couldn't stand the risible science in Dr Who (as well as its horrible wokeness). Star Trek the Next Generation used to irritate me with its technobabble (as well as its horribly contrived plots). If they annoyed me they must have sent Sheldon nuts.

Ah the quarry! Many an episode filmed there. It wouldn't surprise me if the BBC leased some buildings near by and had an arrangement with a hotel.
