I used to build freeflight powered aeroplanes as a kid, loads of big gliders as well (up to 6 ft wingspan)...did RC nitro trucks (not relevent tho), but one guy at work dabbled in RC helicopters....he found the days you could actually fly them in a year to be very small. Any appreciable breeze, forget it, and be prepared for running repairs. He was very very nervy when learning, which seemed to take forever.
TBF, it was only £250 second hand and was really quite impressive, sorry, no idea what model or engine size it was.

For me, half the fun was building them. I once forgot to give the tail on a model i'd been making for two weeks a bit of angle to make it circle. I hadnt put a tail flip timer on it either (to make it stall after a pre determined time)...it promptly flew off into the distance...brand new, maiden flight, never to be seen again :laugh: Gutted. I ran for miles after it.
