This morning I was going to collect a little something from Ribble bikes and decided to cycle the 30 mile round trip. Which took me through Blackburn town centre around 08:30 am. I was climbing a busy hill, when a Range Rover driven with the man on the mobile phone, caught me on my upper arm with the nearside door mirror as he squeezed past..
I caught him at the red lights at the top, not intentionally. When I moved his mirror in..The nearside widow dropped and he asked me what I was doing. I replied that I thought you wanted your mirror adjusting and couldn't reach the remote mirror switch because you were using one hand to use the mobile, and didn't want to let go of the steering wheel with the other hand in case you veered in to a cyclist or something..
He replied only just caught you and Its not like I knocked you off.
Didn't reply with anything out loud but certainly thought it.....Especially when I noticed the car was sporting a cycle carrier on the back doors..Hope he doesn't come across any Range Rover drivers who can't judge the width of the gap, when he is out and about on his bike...

A like for keeping your cool.
He probably bought the car with a cycle carrier already fitted, no way he cycles himself.

The cycle rack / carrier was his fashion accessory. To give him some street status to "make up" for driving around in a £40K plus vehicle.

Could not tell you what I would like to do with him. However, it would result in an expensive paint job or a court case. Probably the court case in light of the not so recent stance the police employs in coming down on the side of the motorist.

An interesting stance, since no doubt there are also many, regular, normal drivers with these vehicles, with bike racks fitted, who have them for carrying bikes, as they are keen cyclists and do not drive like tw*ts. I should know, I drive one.
Lets get the tarring brush out shall we...

Mod message can we avoid the sweeping generalisations please? People on here rightly get irate when drivers talk about all cyclists RLJing. Let's not do the same...

Huh?

There's a massive difference between RLJ and a cyclist being hit by a motorist whilst on the phone.

Way over the top moderation.....

Maybe a re-read is in order the Modding had nothing to do with the OP's experience.

No issue to me, I'm happy with mud slinging. Sadly those that are small minded

Genetically, ALL Range Rover drivers are tossers.
You have to pass the tosser test before entering the showroom.
Apparently.

And clearly have little better to do with their time

My message was in regard to the comments about ALL range rover drivers being tossers, not referring to the OP. I hoped that its placement immediately after the offending messages would have made this clear.

I didn't see any sweeping generalisations in the OP, just someone who encountered ONE range rover driver who clearly WAS a tosser, and handled the incident far more calmly than I would have done.

4x4 drivers more likely to flout mobile phone and seat belt laws
Unsafe driving behaviour and four wheel drive vehicles: observational study British Medical Journal online first
Drivers of four wheel drive vehicles are more likely to flout laws regarding mobile phones and seat belts than drivers of other cars, finds a study published on bmj.com today.
This is a major public health concern and greater efforts are needed to educate the public and enforce these laws, argue the authors.
