Max Gottschalk, a german, crossed from Russia to the United States without using a boat. Or a plane for that matter.
The first documented person to do this in modern times.
1913.
He used a dog sled team across the Bering Straight.

If you stretched all the people in the world of childbearing age in a long line, head to toe, there would be no need for the pill

The first undisputed person to reach the North Pole didn't do so until 1966.
Wally Herbert. Cook and Peary both claimed it early in the 20th century, but
nobody believes them.

Wally Herbert.
Wasn't he the first person to walk there? Other people had got there before him.

I thought he was the first to get there by any means. Yes he did walk there.
The Italians flew over it in an airship before the First War. Didn't a sub - Russian or US break though the ice to the surface? But that would be afterwards.

Peary and Cook claimed to have got there but their accounts don't stand up to scrutiny and they had a reputation as liars in other events.

I'm willing to be corrected:rolleyes:

Thank you. I had it in my mind that Wally Herbert reached the Pole the same year England won the World Cup.
Time does strange things to memory!

The group Kasabian named themselves after Linda Kasabian, one of the infamous Charles Manson "family" that murdered at least 7 people in the 60s.... including a beautiful 8 month pregnant woman.
Why would anyone choose that name
