Recommend a route from Farnborough/Woking into London

I need to get from Winchester to Bethnal Green on Sunday to collect my daughters' car. Once possibility is to get a train to Farnborough or Woking and cycle from there. I ideally want a route that requires minimal navigation but also avoids massive main roads. A bit optimistic, but any ideas? I am perfectly comfortable about all the central London bits once I get in there

Other solution is to cycle the first bit then train from Woking etc

Road Bike or hybrid? If the latter then Basingstoke Canal from Woking, join the Thames at Chertsey and follow the towpath into town.

cheers. Had not thought of something like that. But was thinking road bike.

Having said all that, plans have now changed and I am not in fact going!!
