Totally agree.

I am currently repairing and upcycling a broken 54yr old. So far its working but if he gives up the ghost again I'm going for young and shiny.

Blimey, I didn't realise Hill Wimp was a chick! The very foundations of my World have been rocked!
No guarantee they are a chick from that statement! I beleive @potsy has met Hill Wimp, maybe he can shed some light?

I and Mrs P each have one of those plastic storage boxes in the boot for stuff like wheel braces, torque wrench (makes me feel manly even just typing that) etc etc...

They are forever cracking and breaking, so I eyed up some scrap wood I've got in the garage - this is shortly going to transform into two car-boot storage receptacles. My manliness will explode.

(I might see if I can stencil something pretty onto the lids - ironically of course).

Always like fixing stuff. Son came down last night after breaking a decent set of gaming headphones by accident - literally snapped at the weakest point near the ear piece. Careful removal of screws and liberal super glue, screwing back together, left to set overnight, and the ear piece doesn't fall off. OK it doesn't rotate and flex like it did, but it's saved him quite a few £££'s.

At my last works one of the saws went down and we got a quote for £6,000 for a new PC to run it.
I took the processor out of a scrap machine I bought for £5 and slotted that in. It booted up and ran fine.
That saw was still running happily years later when I left.

In my current place it looks like the back light has failed on the screen of a £50,000 CNC corner cleaner.
Of course the only quote from the engineers is £5,000 to replace the whole PC, they think they have companies over a barrel.
As soon as possible I'm having a go at that. You can get back light bulbs for £1.25 on ebay and inverters for £2.50.
