Finally after a six month absence I am returning to work. I can now walk unaided, albeit with background pain and I can even cycle 35 miles, though very slowly. All in all, making great progress.

In the budget and based on OH report, there is a sum of money to buy me a new chair. I sit for at least five hours a day and maybe more to start with as I get back up to speed.

I think I need something that doesn't 'hug' me, i.e. a flat seat as even soft chairs are hurting my damaged leg.

But that's all I know. I have googled a bit and there are some with knee support, anyone have experience of this? Is there something that you can adjust every nook and cranny as that might help, although may need a seat fitting?!

Ideally I would try them out, but that may not be possible - the ones in staples and IKEA don't seem to adjust enough.

If not, I'll bring pillows etc. and make what I have work!

Thanks all!

I'm a headteacher, so mostly office based but broken up throughout the day with assemblies, discipline issues etc. But lots of meetings and computer work, which is where the chair comes in.

If you spend significant time at the pooter they have to do a display screen assessment. A proper one will encompass all aspects, including seating, and your employers should then make reasonable adjustments accordingly. This is how I got a bespoke seat when I was in the dibble.

Interesting. I think then I should make a few phone calls to HR etc. Not had to do this for any of my staff members so will be a very useful learning curve.

Iirc the NHS has display screen equipment risk assessments which you can request..... never bothered but other people have had help with the cost of glasses, new chairs etc. I'm surprised your staff haven't cottoned on via their unions.

Do NOT buy from staples or Ikea.

Checkout human scale.

If the school will allow it go for a soft pad eames, then flog it for a 2k bike and a human scale chair.

Extremely useful, thank you. Googling didn't get me near to these and they look promising. I have a budget of £800 (but get VAT back) so they are in the right ball park.
