I read that Corey Pavin is bringing in an F16 pilot to give a motivational speech and Tiger Woods is upset because of comments made by McIlroy about his form. Is it me or are the Americans just a little bit up themselves (or in Woods case up someone else)? They just don't seem to understand that sport is not war and they are confusing US foreign policy in Iraq/Afghanistan with what should be a 'hands across the pond' sporting event? Sportsmanship should win the day for whatever team is brave enough to adopt it.

Is the team who play in green and white hoops in Glasgow called SELTIC or KELTIC?
You can't have it both ways.
I know it's pedantic but the pronunciation must be consistent. If you say Seltic for the football team, then it sounds an affectation to call it Keltic Manor or a Keltic Cross or refer to the Keltic nation.
I know it's daft but it's one of those things that bugs me.

Nooooo - not more flamin' golf?! Didn't we just have some other golf thing finish? Radio 5 does wall to wall golf and it's insane- golf- on the radio! (Next week, snooker?). Just two questions, is this one in the US or here? At least if it's over here I can listen to R 5 through the night- if it's in the US it's bloomin' golf on the radio all night. Mental. And how long does it drag on for? Please not all week. Sigh......

Golf Tournaments are 4 days max, the Majors are Thursday to Sunday. This years Ryder Cup is over here , as Paul B said , Starts Friday, ends Sunday....

tbh, i have to say..
i dont care
unless europe win, in which case its fantastic
having said that, the ryder is good, in that it's not part of the usual professional golf world. it definately has a different ( and in a lot of ways) better 'feel' to it when you watch...
( even though i had a cold and it was tiring , i enjoyed part of my ride on saturday, i went past 3 golf courses,, and just thought , those blokes are about the same age as us,, and they're using electric golf buggys..... +1 for us!!)

Sunday- that's a relief- I can live with that. Some of these golf things seem to go on forever. I'm a lousy sleeper so usually listen to talk radio (either 5 or World Service) all night and when the golf's on from America it's a bloody nightmare. Literally. Helps me sleep though!

The Rhyder Cup is important and very different for the Americans as it's one of the only popular US sports where their national team actually plays against an overseas team.
We're used to international competition in football, both types of rugby, cricket, etc, etc, but for the US, this is pretty much it as far as mass appeal sport goes. For them it's almost 'freakish', so it takes on an importance that we can't really appreciate.
