Runnymede Roundabout Project

Hi all,

I am not sure if this is the right place for posting so mods, please move if need be, but I need help from as many people as I can as quite simply, these proposals must not happen and it is something I am feeling very strong about.

Surrey County Council are looking at re-vamping the Runnymede Rbt which include very significant changes and in the all too flaunted and inappropriate words include what they call, 'cycle improvements'.

The proposed plans are quite frankly dangerous and a death trap for those on two wheels. There is no cycle infrastructure at all, nor traffic calming. Instead, they are proposing to expand the numbers of lanes, up to SIX in parts. It will be a mine field of heavy and fast vehicle with no protection and I fear this rbt will be the end of me. It is one a use daily and dangerous as it is anyhow.

Survey completed. I'm Egham based, so from the cycle route proposals around town perspective it's not too bad, but the RR proposal is shocking, even from a motorists perspective.

I use the roundabout regularly in the car, travelling from Staines to Datchet and back. I have never cycled it and must admit, as it is I would need my wits about me to do so, as it is at the present time.
The plan shows pedestrian/cycle crossings, but where are the cycle lanes. From what I can see, the planners are apparently suggesting that cyclists use four pedestrian/cycle crossings to negotiate my route!
It does, once again seem only to properly consider the motorist, not 'other' road users.
I'll have a look at and complete the survey, poste haste.

I have also emailed the local cycle clubs to see if they have heard about this and urging them to respond.

In talking to my non-cycling friends about this and then showing them the plans, they are in just as much shock and confusion as we cyclists are.

What ever SCC are thinking off is beyond everyone I have spoken too.
