Schoolboy Error!

Now, I will freely admit that I`m not the best when it comes to bike repairs. Tonight, I put on new tyres and was quite pleased with how quickly I did so. I always put the chain on the small chain-ring and the small cog at the back too.

However, after I had flicked through the gears, I noticed I had put the back tyre on the wrong way round (I mis-read the directional arrow on the tyre!)

Without thinking, I popped the wheel out again and it was only as I was half-way through changing it that I remembered I hadn`t put the chain on both the smallest cogs?

I had to try and guess which gear I was in when putting the back wheel in again. Once everything was back in place, I ran through all the gears and they seem to change properly, i`m just worried that when I do out out on it again, sitting on it will affect the gear changes.

Do you think it will be OK - any advice well appreciated!

Don't worry, the gears will sort themselves out as soon as you use them.

Thanks - that`s a bit of a relief to hear. I always thought the wheel had to go back into the gear it came out of, hence putting the chain on the smallest cog and the small chain-ring as you would know exactly what gear you were in

Never again bother with the directional arrow. It is absolute nonsense.

Why couldn`t you have told me that an hour ago! lol

Should have just turned the wheel round.

As said it doesn't really matter what gear your in to put the wheel back in, but if you want in in small at the back which might be easier just click the rear derailleur all the way down without the wheel in.
