Seat post cracking / stress marks on Giant Defy adv 2

I just had a seatcap snap on my 2008 Trek Madone 5.2 about a month ago. I bought it in 2007 so almost 10 years old. Trek has replaced it under warranty no questions asked. I have received a new Emonda frame that they are currently building as I type.

Actually, I am pretty sure it is just the paint. A new type of flexible paint will solve most of the "carbon crack" problems but unfortunately make real crack diagnosis and early warning more difficult. Top brand manufacturers are paying a heavy price for keeping their name revered...or are we paying high prices for frames that will be replaced just because the paint cracked?

Anyway, nice outcome and kudos to Giant for not letting the customer sit with doubt.

I have a similar crack on a carbon frame. 10,000 miles later and it is still the same. I think they are quite common where this is a lot of paint and sometimes filler. As said though well done Giant for a no quibble replacement.
