Shimano MW80 Winter boots

Am thinking of getting some of the above boots for the winter weather(Yes I know it's still summer but I like to be prepared)
Am a bit confused over the sizing and want to hear from anyone who has a pair to confirm what size to go for.
My summer shoes are a size 45 and are a good fit, can wear with thin or thick socks by adjusting the velcro fasteners, I have read one or two comments on review sites about how the boots come up small.
Do I go for 1 size up or 2?

Also are they worth the money or is there better out there?

I'm usually a size 9/44, went for MW80s in 45, bang on Remember you'll probably want at least the option of thicker socks and/or an extra pair.

Are they worth the money? YES! They shrug off showers, warm, on wet FNRttCs they've kept my feet dry during several hours of steady rain- water did eventually get through, but I didn't have Sealskinz on. Good on the bike, plenty stiff enough, but good to walk in too.

As StuAff said, go up a size on my MW80 compared to your normal Shimano size.

I'd also look at the Northwave Celsius & Fahrenheit GTX boots, I've found them much more flexible than Shimano MW80. On their own they're not as waterproof as the MW80 but they will protect against prolonged light rain/drizzle & short but heavy showers that would see most shoes soaked through, however with the addition of a rubber coated lycra overshoe they're every bit as warm & water proof as the MW80. The thing is when you take that overshoe off they're far more breathable than the MW80 & are only really getting too hot once it's way over 20C.

I have some size 45 MW80's, although I should have probably bought size 46. When I started off commuting I was a shimano size 44, so when I bought the MW80's I bought the next size up for a little extra sock room. Unfortunately my feet are now shimano size 45, so the MW80's are fine but not much room for thick socks, just need to use two or three good quality thin one's or maybe invest in heated socks for sub zero temperatures.

A little story - I bought a pair of Northwave Farenheits from Chain Reaction. I decided on them for a number of reasons but basically a price & reviews decision. I noted from the reviews that many people said that the NWs sized small. I emailed CRC to get advice. They said I ought go for a size up on Shimano. So I did. And they were too big. Ok, no problems changing them but it made me realise that the only way to know for sure is to try them.

Btw, I really like the NWs. Like any boot, they are a restrictive around the ankle and that does take some getting used to, but they do the job. I'm surprised by the range of temperatures I can ride in without getting sweaty feet. For a winter boot, they breath well.

Took advantage of CRC's offer and got a pair of the MW80's for £100, arrived today and the fit is spot on (46)
All kitted up for winter now
