he was an absolute master on 'Just a Minute'

I thought so too. And Uncle Phil's description of the tactic is spot on. It must have been infuriating for the others, almost impossible to buzz in. I loved Clement Freud's delivery for that alone!

Can't agree about Paul Merton though. Yes, his wanderings into the surreal are funny but I find him too self-aware and seemingly needy of accolade.... and too damned serious about winning! It was always a game for Freud.

Sad news that, always liked him. Good innings though.

Yes, at 84, with nearly 60 years of marriage behind him, 5 kids and 17 grandkids, and a life seemingly always doing stuff he liked, it's not bad...

I've warmed to Paul Merton on J.A.M. so to speak - I think he's rather good.

I heard that - anyone know who? I got the impression it was going to be a small team, as opposed to lots of random people. Not sure about it, but am prepared to wait and see.

Or they could just repeat from the beginning....

Buzz!!!! For suggested repetition

Can they not get Samantha to present ISIHAC, assisted by Mrs Trellis from North Wales? Played by Plax, presumably.
Actually, Trellis may be Plaxs' surname, for all I know...

You're probably right. Too many 'sss' sounds going on in the middle.
I had to have a run up and a quick nap before I worked up the strength to think about the apostrophe.

Sorry, what was the thread about?

I had the pleasure of seeing Sir Clement in action on JAM at the Fringe last year. He was really enjoying himself, chortling away as others spoke, grinning widely. He and Paul Merton seemed very close, they were always whispering and laughing to each other.

I'll miss him immensely on JAM; his deadpan delivery was always a treat.

The irony was he didn't even like dogs........Mind you seeing him beside Henry a blood hound advertising dog food was a double irony given his credentials as a chef. His deadpan comic delivery even has the disposition of how a blood hound might talk if he could .

JAM when Kenneth Williams and Clement were in full flow was a delight. All the old guard are popping off. Still at least we have the recordings for posterity unless the Beeb has wiped them. Another gem on this evening is yet another showing of Dad's Army the episode where the German parachutist lands on clock tower of Warmington-on-Sea.

Clement will be sadly missed. He was immensely astute and very modest with his comic genius. Don't forget he was an MP for Ely for 14 yrs and did sterling work there as well. Much of his life was in minutes but he crammed such a lot into each and every one.

Thanks Clement.

Not my cup of tea - as for him and his brother not speaking to each other since they were kids - all over a race in the park - sums him up.
