I have only been listening to radio 4, since, I instructed my friend Tom to remove the evil equipment from my flat in 2005. (My TV that is). This is one voice I will sadly miss hearing on the radio.

RIP Sir Clement Freud. ;)

Buzz!!!! Repitition of 'radio'....

Now, there's an idea, the 'just a minute' thread. Not sure how you time it though...

That is indeed sad news, I once had the pleasure of sitting at the same table as him for a dinner, where he also gave the after dinner speech. An evening I will never forget!

I once saw him in Birmingham New Street station. He was really really tall.
A proper old school intellectual too.

V sad.

Arch as Nicholas Parsons.... the mind boggles. Mind you, I think the job'd suit you.

But anyway, yes, Clement will be sadly missed.

Are there children growing up today who think of Paul Merton and Graham Norton as stalwarts of the program, as those of us of a certain age think of Peter Jones ("...Well,.." BZZZZZ "Repetition of "well"!"), Clement Freud and Kenneth Williams as its cornerstones?

Clement's usual tactic was to speak at a deliberate, measured, pace, and to give lists of items matching the description on the card. It usually worked. Occasionally his deadpan persona would crack and we could hear him suppressing a smile on the radio.

I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue would be almost unthinkable without Humph, or Graham Garden. Just a Minute's strength is that it works with a constantly-updated panel of younger comedians. Nicholas can't go on forever though (can he?) - who is lined up to fill his shoes? Arch?

You know, I really cansee that working....

Nonetheless the BBC is bringing it back - I believe with a variety of presenters. Presumably the same concept as on Have I Got News For You.

Afterthought:- Can you take bikes on the tube at Mornington Crescent?

Gosh, I'm touched...

I do belong to the group that think of Paul Merton and Graham Norton as stalwarts, because I came to JAM fairly late in life. I reckon they do a good job, in their own ways - Paul Merton's talent for the surreal is hilarious.

I think I would regard it as the pinnacle of my life to have anything to do with a good radio 4 comedy...

I heard that - anyone know who? I got the impression it was going to be a small team, as opposed to lots of random people. Not sure about it, but am prepared to wait and see.

Or they could just repeat from the beginning....
