I don't think Hearn had any intention of moving the championships from Sheffield, he's not stupid and he knows how important having an iconic venue is to the game. it was a clever ploy to force the Council into upgrading the theater.

It makes sense all round, Sheffield Council isn't actually putting in the bulk of the money and its was overdue a revamp, and the capacity goes up, so more visitors, more revenue, more spending in the city.
It will be interesting to see where it goes in the hiatus year - maybe a bumper one for fans at the Sheffield Arena?

Judgement Day is on Youtube , apparently.

My day sorted, post ride.

Seems to be frequently buffering, usually a webpage refresh then brings up an advert and then streaming resumes ok for a while.

No problem here, though I am several hours in arrears. Playing at 1.25 speed maybe I will be in synch for the evening session.
If you still have problems, maybe lower the stream resolution.
At the start I noticed a few small skip backs hinting at initial technical problems.

I've been out of touch with snooker for the last few years. I'm glad this thread has reminded me that it starts on Saturday. It's about the only sport that I'm happy to watch for hours on end, if I've got nothing else important to do

I find/found the qualifiers more exciting than the Sheffield tournament, it having more meaning to many trying to qualify.
Then Eurosport subscriptions ended !

I might get the HDMI 4 in 1 out combiner out round one, and watch 2 matches at once, it originally purchased for Eurosport snooker.

Easy to see why it beats the World Championships for drama.
8 massive finals took place today.

Another 8 tomorrow.

depends, I caught the end of one game whilst waiting for highlights of the days cycling, and it was like watching the difference between PDC and BDO darts, theyre playing the same game to a standard above the average amateur, but I could totally see why these were the qualifiers.

not that Im a fan the snooker at all, it just becomes increasingly harder to avoid it on Eurosport/TNT this time of year.

Hmmm, have you watched much snooker recent? Several 'top players' have stumbled to finals, te standard randomly dipping.
75% of those qualifiers have a fair chance of making it to the semis. Many top players failed to qualify, the Chinese players raising the overall standard to its highest ever. Tuesday though felt the higher form finals day.
A very large number of centuries were scored including many from Gary Wilson and Zhang Anda.
There is no such thing as an easy match now., though last years world final certainly was, that fitting your description of a BDO player.
Trump versus Gary Wilson might not be the '50/50' described in the draw but if Gary is on form, mixed form Trump loses.
But Zhang Anda certainly should beat low form Mark Allen.

It is also worth noting that for the China tournaments, the pockets are far easier. That is why Thepchaiya Un-Nooh finally won his first tournament.
Also, if you look at https://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?template=35 you will spot many a top player between rank 17 and 32 who failed to qualify.

There are some very interesting matchups this year.
Mark Allen has his work cutout to grind a win against in form Zhang Anda. Kowalski has a chance against Williams as does Guoqiang against O'Sullivan. Trump versus Gary Wilson will be interesting. Wilson has sporadic brilliance whilst Trump of recent much grinding out wins.

no  quite clearly by my "it just becomes increasingly harder to avoid it on Eurosport/TNT this time of year", I literally booked a hotel to visit Sheffield this time of year a few years back once, and couldnt work out why they were so damn expensive, thats how clued in to snooker I am.

as I say what is now TNT/HBO go full on during the worlds and its almost impossible not to end up watching it waiting for highlights of that days pro cycling racing to come on which is where Im at more

Yesterday was weird, some very high quality at the start, then much blundering on to the finish line.
But they are 19th frame matches and that is exactly what usually happens in long world championship games.

Enjoyed watching young Stan Moody giving moody Kyran Wilson a right scare yesterday, shame he ran out of steam a bit / got a bit muddled on his shot selection, but my word what a prospect. Wilson plays Mark Allen next - if both of them could lose I'd be happy.
