If you get off on riding in the rain then do it. If you don't enjoy it, then don't do it.
Cycling is for fun, not some sort of proof of your manliness.

I cycle for excersise more than fun, the health benefits are my aim.

Fair enough, if you need to get cold and wet for health reasons; but it doesn't mean that you have to ENJOY it, or do it to somehow prove your manliness as some are claiming.
I am more than happy to admit I won't be cycling in our current heavy rain and cold strong wind. I'm with you, if it stops being fun and enjoyable, that's when it starts to make you wonder if it's worth doing at all and would be so easy to pack it in.

Being one of your followers on Strava, I know that you have absolutely nothing to prove in cycling terms. You regularly knock out half centuries on hilly terrain that most can only dream about, myself included. I hope you never feel the need to pack it in, as you clearly enjoy it, given reasonable conditions.

I may be wrong in some cases, but I get the distinct impression that some of those who claim to enjoy cycling in the rain must live in drier parts of the country, or do shorter rides. I am sure even I could cope with some rain if I was doing a 5 mile jaunt with a touch of drizzle thrown in for a few minutes! Never ending downpours for hours of cycling on the other hand - I refuse to go there.

I've managed to get it right this year; three good hard rides on the days when it was fine and plenty of recovery on the wet days.

On Saturday my recovery day consisted of helping my cycling buddy to un-hang, plane, re-varnish and re-hang his sticking back door in the morning then felling a tree in the afternoon, cutting it up, splitting the logs and stacking them in our log store. My body felt good all over the next day from the all-muscle workout.

I hate all this blasted rain.

I had 12.5 miles to do on NYE this year to hit 3,000 miles, and having got all togged up opened the garage door to driving heavy rain and high winds. I sighed and went back indoors.

I ended up taking my son out in the car on an errand and an hour later, getting that ride in !

Surprise surprise back at work stuck in the office and look at the weather outside beautiful sunshine hardly any wind and a nice chill to the air.

By the time I finish work and get home it will be pitch black. Oh well here's hoping it stays like this for the rest of the week and into the weekend otherwise I may be pulling a sicky this week just to get a nice ride in.

Forget rain, the wind is the only issue recently. Did not expect such strong wind yesterday around lunchtime really screwed up my average speed and I considered not uploading my ride because of it. When you put the effort in and the wind holds you back, stops you getting KOM's etc, nothing is more annoying.

If you live in this country, and you don't like riding in the rain / dark / cold, then you're not going to get many miles in at this time of the year. I guess that's the difference between a cyclist and someone who rides a bike.
