OK, it's not hugely expensive, but bike computers are one of those things that as long as they work that's all I want from them. £10 for a bottom of the range Sigma is what I'm comparing it with.
Though after this evening's trainer session was interrupted by me having to put my glasses on to read the computer mounted on the bottle cage I may have to reconsider
Smeggers, if logging "mileage" is your only goal then something cheap would do you. I use one of these at the back. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/dc-4s-wired-computer-id_8130032.html
It's wired and the lead easily reaches my handle bars though I tend to just let it lie on the floor at the back wheel and only look at it when the workout is done. I only attach it when using the turbo by threading the cable ties the wrong way ie non-rachetting (is that a word?) manner making it a gift to remove. As you and Rob3ert point out Turbo mileage means nothing but I suppose it can be used to measure your efforts in a sort of a way if you don't have any of the more fancier gadgets. I did a workout the other day. The mileage read 9 miles. I did the same timed routine this afternoon. The mileage read 11 miles.
To be very honest with you, you would be better using your watch and recording how long you spend on the turbo. Milage on the turbo is not worth measuring. Save yourself some cash
But it would give him an idea of how far and fast he would go if he were riding it on the road were it not for drag, hills, rolling resistance and the off chance he would be killed by a woman driver.
