Yeah, I know. You seemed to suggest only that no-one should go out with a new club, which would eventually lead to the demise of all clubs for that sport. Are there any positive suggestions?
I spent 10 years as the welcomer of new members to a large cycling club, introducing them to other members, riding with them, in fact doing anything I could to make life nicer for new members, it was only when I took a year out to build a house and somebody at a commitee meeting asked who was going to do my job that I realised others thought I had been selected for a certain position within the club

My experience is the polar opposite. Tiny minority of takers, overwhelming majority of givers. But not all giving is equally valued.

I suspect it depends a bit whether other givers are grumpy or merely gruff, too
