We bought an electric coal effect fire. Its in the flat so rarely used. It has a remote control but we have never used it.
In there today we switched the TV on, only to find that the TV remote switches the fire on & off.
Funny at first but really annoying as even altering the TV volume will switch the fire off or on.
Any idea why or how to prevent it?
Mine did that last week with my hi-fi remote. Turned the volume up, fire turned off... only my remote was pointing away from the fire so it must have reflected off something, hence it only happening the once. But it does turn the fire on and off if i point the remote at it.

Take the batteries out of the remote.
Sorted.

They still make telly's with buttons that work, meaning you don't need a remmote?

When I scroll rapidly through the EPG on the telly that can fire up the digi recorder which is usually off. I just point the remote off to one side to sort it or slow my scrolling activity. But lots have already said point the remote off to one side. So I add this experience in for completeness.
