I use a smart phone to record my rides on strava being doing it for over a year with very few issues . However during the last few weeks I experienced riding stopping recording at a point on the ride but still recording time .
I have now pin pointed two different black holes were the mobile stops recording . Both places are in the open and should not lose GPS .
Don't want to buy a dedicated GPS unit . Does anyone else have the above issues or know of a solution
Thanks

I was right about that saddle
Where do you put your mobile?
I find that my Jersey back pocket is the only place to get a constant GPS signal.
An inside jacket pocket or trouser pocket has given me issues before.

A lot of people i know coincidentally have had gps issues with strava over the last 2 weeks.... wonder if there is a software problem? Might be nothing. Maybe it's the dodgy weather (does that effect gps?)

Or you could get a quad lock & have the phone attached out front on the stem that's what I have & cycle in a few weak signal places but never lose signal on Strava

Another thought ... to see if it's a Strava problem try running another GPS app alongside, I use Viewranger for route navigation. If they both fail at the same time you know it's the GPS signal, if not then probaly the app. The best bit is they are all free to try!

What can you display on the screen , when riding, using strava, could be my answer to buying another garmin just for live segments

Not sure I use both Strava on I phone & the garmin edge 1000 , the backlight go's out on the phone so I don't see the display for Strava it just runs in the background next time I shall have a look , I'm a premium member if that makes any difference

I like the live segments I use the Bluetooth headset & get the prompts for the segments spoken to me as well as displayed on the garmin , my fastest time , the fastest time on that segment from others that I'm following , how far to the start of the segment , halfway time , segment complete time it's a great bit of kit I'm still new to it so just experimenting with it all still if I'm honest .

I'm assuming it's something to do with Strava, I don't remember losing signal on the roads you're often on with my Garmin. Don't know if it helps!

Been using the Strava phone app (iOS) for the last 2-3 years and I've never had a problem. Maybe one partially recorded commute in all that time - and I do around 4,000 miles + commuting each year.

Last week, had 2 commutes fail completely on me. Started the app, locked phone, put into back pocket... got to destination only to find that each time I'd manage to record about 15 seconds of my rides.

I haven't changed anything in my routine, so have to conclude that there might have been an app update or something that's caused the issue. No issues in the last few days. Will continue to monitor and see...

I had the same problem as you and a search around found that some people had success by using an app called GPS Status. I installed this a few months ago and not had any problems since ...... don't know if this is just coincidence or it actually changed something but could be worth a try. Also might be worth reading this:

First ride today with GPS status on mobile and another fail :banghead:.Ride home took me within 400 MTS of where is stopped recording this morning and absolutely fine it appears so hit and miss
