I'd have strapped the timber to my top tube crossbar in fact I have done but in my case it was a 3.4 metre handrail for the stairs.

I've done that with other planks but this was too much. Got me thinking about a top tube hook-on bracket to transport planks. I usually support the rear end on my rack. Cables and front dynamo lamp are always a problem with this style of carriage.

We're only 'amateurs' at shifting 'stuff' by bikes though,
