is it true that a Buccaneer pilot had to climb to land to make room for the wheels to go down??

I’ve never heard that one although it’s ability to sit on compressed ‘boundary layer’ air at low level was well known. Crews also employed a party trick of using a system that sensed weight coming off the undercarriage to automatically retract it as the aircraft look off, resulting in photographs apparently showing it flying astonishingly low.
