Tales from today's commute....

The return was odd: It looked like the train had emptied so we piled on and found a couple with bikes still hadn't exited the train, I stepped sideways to get out of the way (Brompton was folder, so this was fairly simple) only to have a mother and teenage daughter come up behind me, complain, and push through the gap. It's unusual in Germany and earned them the ire of other passengers...

Is there something in the water? Yesterday, a teenage boy was reminded by an older lady that he needed to move out of the way for people to exit the train. Nothing unusual there: she was polite, he was polite and moved out of the way.
Then another woman pushed past both of them as the door opened, and elbowed her way past exiting passengers to get a seat...
As she did, another waiting passenger was heard to say "Soviel zur Vorbild" or "So much for setting a good example..."

just occasionally Id like to be able to say, nothing remarkable happened, or even better something nice happened. but no, with the kids back at school, the roads are busy again, and everyone is driving around like a lunatic. If I thought the previous week was fraught it had nothing on this last week.

part of me ponders is it just because I spent two days on a high around lots of cycling stuff, where everyone seemed really happy and excited about cycling & cyclists, followed by two days where it felt almost the same people were then taking out their frustration on cycling instead and I just happened to be the one cyclist in the way.

I mean when your dealing with stuff like a driver pulls out on you at a roundabout youre already on, then blames you for being in their way, or theres a guy speeding past a school between parked cars towards you,and there are two kids on bikes just in front of him on the road, so I made sure he slowed to a stop (well I had nowhere else to go and I wasnt letting him close pass me at the speed between parked cars) and it gave the kids some breathing space to get out of his way , but again its my fault apparently for being there, not his for driving like a grade a muggle, and Im just lost at what happens to people behind the wheel of car sometimes.

chuck in the usual load of close passes, people in such a hurry they must overtake you, only to then stop 50 yds later, do these people forget where they are driving too, or is it just mgif.

but to cap it all, nearly got crushed by a lorry, who overtook in a really dangerous way and spot and decided to pull in once the cab had passed me, happy I ride with disc brakes is all im saying, and yes theyll be reported.

so its been quite the week, lets hope for better next week

Nearly had a nasty accident this morning. Heading along the Greenway in East London, a squirrel on the grass at side of path was spooked by my presence and decided to escape from my presence....by running across the path, missing my front wheel by about an inch.

Got up this morning with a reminder least favourite time of year is round the corner, first few miles in semi darkness, still got to see sun come up. No wind, nice layed back cycle into work. Hassle free apart from overtakes near round about and traffic lights. I still dont understand the manic surge for a red light or roundabout beyond me and poiintless. Fewer days commuting on bike this week due to work. At least less rain forecast this week.

A lovely morning here in Kentishire. First day back on the commute after being away enjoying hot climes.
Nice to be back on the bike. Better put some effort in to get rid of all the holiday indulgence.

nice run into work on road bike, all fine until I got behind doodling dorris unable to go beyond 15 miles per hour and all over the road not sure if to be honest its was drugged up dave as a straight line seemed to be beyond them. No point reporting it as police not interested. Lovely part of the world I live in got up to watch neighbour do her regular drug deal curb side again no point reporting it as police not intersted. What a place this country has become, cess pool.

First day back to commuting on the bike after nearly 3 weeks off (not even touched a bike) - I'd driven the two days before my holiday as I wasn't risking an accident like in January before we flew to Madera.

Set a pretty good time, one of my quickest on the 'tank' - must have had a good rest.

Set off this morning, just as sun rising, its chilly, but once sun has risen, it was glorious.

Even more enjoyable today watching those who normally crowd themselves into metal boxes on rails, instead crowding themselves into metal boxes on snarled up roads.

So nice to sail past the never ending snakes of stationary queuing vehicles
