Man returns to work after visiting the doc's. He's looking glum.

His mate says "What's up, Bill? Doctor have bad news for you?"

"He says I've got to take a pill every day for the rest of my life," says Bill.

"That's not so bad" says his mate, "there's plenty of people have to take a pill every day."

"I know that", says Bill, "but he's only given me three!"

Have some Tea, Speicher. Perhaps the pills will fix the problem once and for all.

I very much hope it does. This lurgy started on the 12th May! Saw the Doc who diagnosed a throat infection and to increase the inhalers for my asthma. I think the chest infection has been caught in the early stages.

Oh, rotten luck. Hope it's all sorted soon... Have some tea and tiffin while you wait...

Uncle Phil, it's a 7 spd shift I'm after, but now that I'm thinking of using the moustache bars, I don't know how compatible it'll be? I might be ok using the shifter on the end of the bar, or thumb shifters might be better - although I'm nicely used to twist shifters now....

What I need is, when I have the frame and all the bits, is to invite a lot of KPWBBs (Knowledgable People With Bits Boxes) round to tea, ply them with cake, and let them work their magic...

I am moderately pleased with myself. I did 33 miles last night (all flat), at an average speed of 13.3mph! The return trip (15.94 miles) was at 14.36mph! I don't know why, if there was a tailwind it was very slight, but I just kept churning away, and felt good!

My normal longer ride speed is 11-12mph - although I managed 12.72mph on the Pocklington ride, mainly through trying to keep up with the group I was 'leading';)

It'll depend on how long the "droopy" bits of the moustache bar are, and whether you plan to tape them or use grips. You can have it to try, though, and put it in your bits box if you dont' use it.

If I qualify then, given enough cake...

You're on the list...;) I sort of want to do it all myself, but I just get intimidated by all the choice and stuff...

The bars had a grab-on foam/bartape combination when Tom was using them, so anything goes really... Taping would give the best chance of colour co-ordination... So I'd be grateful for it, to have a try and see, anyway. However, it could be a while before I have the frame back, so there's no rush....

Wow, you'll be up to the 100 mile Grimpeur in no time;). I found when I was training for Amsterdam that something suddenly clicked and my average went up overnight. It sounds like the same's happened for you now you've put in a few longer rides. You'll definitely be up to a flat century before long.

I know a man with a big bits box. Does that qualify me for cake?;)

Not that kind of cheese wheel.;);)

All I can say is that this old wheel has served me well but has become edam nuisance, it was only a cheapie, has met every unavoidable pothole that South London has to throw at it, keeps popping spokes and has basically been ridden close to death. It will be retyred with honours.;)

Now, where's that tea...........

You're just boasting....;)

Ok, you're on the list....;)

It helped last night that it was so mild, so I didn't need my jacket on, just the hi-vis vest, so I didn't overheat. Once I was back in sight of town, and saw I was still just under an hour, that gave me the impetus to keep the pace up, and I came down Hull Road like a rocket (compared with my normals about town pace). Might have been even faster, if I hadn't got stopped at the last 4 sets of lights...

I think there might have been a certain amount of luck - you know how some days you just feel good...

Big question is, do I do the same in 2 weeks time for the next craft evening? I don't suppose the light levels will be that different, and I had 3 sets of lights on.
