At some point the thread turned into a Carry On Film, I feel a bit like Charles Hawtry in the background being happily purplexed!

BTW Doctor I have to be nosey, was you interview at British Areospace by any chance? Watched Apollo 13 with Ms. tdr1nka(6) this weekend, she is totally facinated by space at the mo.

Astrium. Used to be part of BAe (BAe Space Systems, IIRC) but since bought by EADS. The same group that's involved with Airbus. Actually I've just had a call from one of the guys who interviewed me - just to confirm I was OK working at heights with heavy equipment.
Told him yes - I've just spent the weekend working on ladders with Kangos and diamond tipped circular saws, so working at heights with heavy equipment that will take your arm off given half a chance!
I might hear something good towards the end of the week or beginning of next, but he 'didn't say that';).

Apollo 13? Ace film. I've got 'Lost Moon' - the book it was based on, by Jim Lovell. PM me if you'd like it. I have way too many books. May be a bit hard work for a 6 year old, or maybe not.
And try and make sure she sees the partial solar eclipse later in the year. They're brilliant. Not a patch on total solar eclipses though;).

Speicher! Hello *offers hug*

How are you? Have some Baileys fudge.

Bailey's Fudge thank you.
Not feeling good today. Ache all over, not just the back. I will be seeing the Consultant Back Surgeon tomorrow morning. I have been assured that if the problem is part of another illness, then this Consultant should be able to diagnose that, and at least send me to get the right scans, etc that are needed. I have deliberately not gone looking for illnesses, ailments that match my symptoms, but came accross one by accident today. I am hoping for some sort of diagnosis and get quickly referred to the right people for treatment. At the moment I cannot be on my feet for more than half and hour or so, without having to lie down afterwards.

If you would like to give me a hug, make sure it is a very gentle one.
I will excuse myself from making the tea, tho' I did make an exception the other day for Abitrary.

OMFG have I got my fingers crossed for you, that would be sooooooo cool! Was worried it might have been Marconi 'cos they make nasty missiles and sattalite(sic) stuff.
You might be able to help me with a queiry I have about Spaceship One, I read about the test flights in Time and have since lost the article. I am under the impression that the booster fuel is made from recycled car tyres, or am I going mad?

Tea?

Love one, ta.

AFAIK Spaceship One uses rubber fuel with nitrous oxide as an oxidiser - more info at Scaled Composites site. I don't know if it's recycled car tyres, but it's rubbery stuff, so it might be. And no, I wouldn't fancy missiles etc. My current company supplies to the MOD, MBDA (BAe Army Weapons as was - they make missiles) and is starting some work on autonomous military aircraft. I have moral qualms about some of this, so that's one reason for moving.
Plus, space tech is ubercool!

Thanks for the finger crossage. I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear anything, but don't hold your breath.

In my itinerant youth I used to work at the then Manor Motors on Hatfield Parade, just up from Walters Garage and the old British Aerospace site on the A1.

Many a happy hour was spent with all conversation drowned out buy the testing of the somewhat ironically named 'hush' jets.

*hands out more tea*

I did, yes. I wish I hadn't. They are very crawly and flittery, and my hair is tousled enough without locusts stuck in it. If the Doctor were here, he could help to pick them out, or do something clever with his sonic screwdriver or something...

Yes, I am pleased with Seamus's helmet. Here he is riding in a pannier on the back of my recumbent trike, when we still had matching helmets.

Trawling back to see what I'd missed, I came across this. Arch, I'd love to de-tousle your hair.
Or get it more tousled.
Whatever you like, really.
That's a great picture:smile::biggrin:;):biggrin:;):biggrin::sad:
*really must book train to York*
