Evening all! I've had a rather jolly evening in the company of a lot of YACFers. There was tea. And cake.

Must be time for bed now....

I came into York today for the CTC event and had a close pass and a left hook.

There I was minding my own business, third in line, waiting for the lights to change. When the lights changed and we all started to move off a cyclist passed me, at speed, on the right nearly hitting my mirror and, without looking or signalling, left hooked me to get back in the cycle lane causing me to stamp on the brake so as not to knock her off her bike!

Then later on I saw an elderly woman cycling slowly and so I indicated and moved out to overtake giving her plenty of space. At the same time another cyclist came belting up on the left and decided to over take the elderly cyclist at the same time as me making my wide pass a bloody close one for the two of them. Then, having passed the cyclist further up the road, I got ready for a left turn, indicated, slowed and who should show up? The same cyclist passing me on the left as I am getting ready to turn!

Some cyclists eh?

I had the *most amazing* slab of cake today at a garden centre cafe where we stopped as part of the club ride. Everyone else had flapjacks. I had a huge square cube of toffee caramel goodness.

Oh. My.

*drools*

I've just returned back to 'digs' after the first day of the CTC event in York. The day included a wonderfully large hand made beef burger with real cheese and tomato and corriander :hungry:, continued on with a cake stop at a caravan belonging to some new friends from the YACF :hungry: and ended with a Velovision ride :bicycle::bicycle::bicycle::bicycle: out to The Blacksmith's Arms pub just past Saturn where I had a lovely chicken melt with cheese and bacon and big chips :hungry::cheers:.

I think I saw one or two bikes and maybe bought a few things that might have something to do with cycling, not sure really.

It has a been a good day and I have met a large number of nice people.

So whats the cycle show like this year are there plenty of sellers to spend money with, another words is it worth me coming over from harrogate.

I would think so. There are a few trade stands there selling all sorts. One huge tent with lots of bike parts and related clothing from Cycling Promotions and a number of other companies in another huge tent and some smaller tents and marquees with cothings, parts, tyres, etc. There was an auction of bikes today and a saddle bag sale tomorrow. Entry is £3 and you get a wrist band for entry into the traders area and £1 for the programme which is also a raffle ticket for a £600 bike.

I have bumped into Mickle on the Get Cycling stand, Spandex near the Bike Rescue stand, Arch at teh Velovision stand and Crinkley Lion at the Cake stop among many others I can't remember.

I bought 4 bike chains for my long tail bike and Ratrike projects for £1 each, a comfier saddle for my Hungarian folding bike (Granville), a slightly 'second' fluorescent orange Polaris waterproof cycling jacket for £3 (thanks to Arch's boss who found a load of them on a stand and was bulk buying them for work) and some spare QR seat post bolts for £1 each.

Will be back tomorrow to have a closer look at the Alpkit stall.
