Belgian toothpaste.....anyone whos ridden in the Somme flatlands of flanders and northern france in the spring will know it....pigshite mixed with fine clay grit that plasters everything in the wet. really abrasive fine gunge...a delight in your bidons and lips every time you take a drink....that gritty crunch on your teeth and tongue....hmmm
That sounds just like the into to "Dog in a hat"
From the intro.... I thought the pigs sh1t toothpaste was an exaggeration.

The ancient, semi-illusionary dialect of a downtrodden people who revere cyclists as beacons of hope and cultural pride? The food, the dirty deals, the pig-sh1t toothpaste, the twofaced team managers, the smoky bars, homicidal teammates, and demented competitors?

Edit. I had to go change the spelling of the word sh1t because it changed it to shoot when I posted.

that will be a good read. I remember Bob Roll (didnt know him personally) right gorilla of a guy. I also remember Davis Phinney (Taylors dad) riding into the back of a renualt savannah team car and slicing his face to shreds in gent wevelgem (i think - might have been 84/85?) Andy hampsten was the beacon of light in 7-eleven.....another fantastic rider who chose to leave the sport over drugs. The 90s was a dark place....young men dying in their sleep with gravy like EPO blood and home administered transfusions. Old gone off bad blood retransfused again..riders dying over it......stuff of horror movies.

I'm enjoying it but the closest frame of reference I have is riding a rental Dutch bike on the canal paths around Eindhoven. Not quite the same.

Sounds like it'd make a good film.

Remember when I said this @Add ?

P.S. You do realise what Geoff's going to do with your handicap for next time now don't you.....

Well the jokes on me now I've seen the new handicaps - the 30 second head-start I had on you last time which you overcame has turned into......a 25 second head-start now! :headshake:

I just had a look at Geoff's video of the race actually - seeing you gradually reel me in was quite painful to watch! By the end I actually found myself rooting for you!

Already grimacing at the prospect of having to relive that half hour again.
Not sure about tonight's ride, will hopefully make it, but had a BAD day at work yesterday.
Put in a VERY expensive set of oak stairs yesterday, that consists of 4 separate flights, going to 3 different landings, all from a complicated 1/2 landing. Had just put the last spindle in, and as I was walking round, I hit my head on a low beam!! Unfortunately another guy, considerably shorter than me had installed that particular flight without checking the clearance.
Wouldn't be so bad.....if it wasn't my mum and dad's house, and my dad is even taller than me.
Mum and dad get back this afternoon, and we have a mountain to climb rectifying this, unless we plug for option B, set fire to it and do an insurance job. Although by announcing that on here, I may have ruled that out now.

Oh dear, don't worry we have got your back you were here with us all the time but we did see a short bloke carrying a petrol can leave the house shortly before it caught fire

I too am questionable for this evening (and to be fair at most other times) Mrs Soarerv8 blathered something about getting her nails done or some such nonsense this evening potentially leaving me notionaly in charge of the hooligans. I did point out that Thursday was MY evening, little did I know that she kept records and bought Tues, Sun, Sat, Fri and last Thurs out as evidence. Adam when you have set fire to your parents house could you pop round and do the same to wherever on earth it is you go to get whatever on earth it is done to nails? Thanks

Sounds like a nightmare but at least you've covered rule #1...

Make sure there's someone else to blame! :okay:

I won't be out to play tonight. I have to go to parents evening. I doubt I will get back in time to watch either. Enjoy! Looks like there will be a quite a few little tussles going on.
