LIVING THE DREAM
Well done Whorty. You were doing great and caught me quite easily until it all went wrong. I agree about those gears which I also lust after. Realistically that does involve splashing out for a new bike, so I have no chance as we just took delivery of this today. Its for the Mrs but I reckon as it's electric I could beat Bob and Turbo Tommy round Richmond Park on it.

She'll need to get a longer lead if she wants to get anywhere.
Don't tell her but I thought it was a childs bike.
Is there a basket in the basket that is going to mount on the front?

I thought you was waiting for me so we could work together .... really annoying when the chain went as I let you down

I think I've said before I'm hoping to retire at 55 so saving hard for that at the moment ..... as the wife said today, I can have a new expensive bike if I want but that puts my retirement back, so what's more important  I think I'll accept the odd dropped chain if I can quit the rat race and spend more time with my wife :smooch: (always wanted to use that emoji)

Well I hardly took a rest TBH. I just backed off the slightest amount and you were on my tail. I needed the rest to tackle the hill just coming up and then I wondered if we'd be able to go up it at a similar pace but unfortunately you had your chain incident. Those used to be very common in the early chaingang races with people forever having their chains come off when hitting the hills. Gear changes used to be very frantic but I thought the software/firmware changes had put a stop to that. Ahhh those were the days when you could get all the way up hills on momentum alone.
I also wanted to retire early but now I've got a staff job its not looking good. Just going to have to keep working and buying bikes.

@BILL S I should have waited and worked with you - apologies! I intended doing that but when my ghost caught up with me the red mist came down and I thought I might have a chance to better my time so I chased it. Turned out I had taken too much out of my legs doing the CG stage beforehand though so I couldn't beat my ghost anyway and backed right off for the last quarter. So in hindsight, should have ridden with you!

By the way, that purple beastie is something else - awesome!!

Your ghost must have started quite slow, but powered on during the middle part? I was happily working with your ghost for the first few km of the race, then you/it pulled away gently. Next time I looked up it/you was leading the pack :notworthy:

haHa yes. The battery is out being charged at the moment. This was the smallest adult electric trike we could find and it has 20" wheels so almost a childs bike. HID is only 5 ft short so with the seat at its lowest she's only just able to sit on the seat and reach the pedals. And she's scared of it so going to have to go to a park and practice. Balance and coordination are not her strong points.

edit: Yes that's a small basket sitting inside the big basket for mounting at the front.

^_^ Yes it's quite a beast! A heavy heavy beast!! Hope it's got decent power and can climb hills but we'll soon find out.
You were way to quick for me as usual today Paul. I don't know if you could've helped me that much as the hills were the biggest problem. I'm happy with my time though and should have a decent top 15 or so finish once the three riders have been discounted. Kind of glad its finished now and we have October as a downhill chaingang league.

Don't underestimate those downhill courses .... it will be a lot of spinning and still @theboxers will leave us in his wake  I'm really looking forward to this next league as anything could happen! :okay:

so going to have to go to a park and practice. .

And brings back memories of teaching your kids to ride but HID is more likely to insist that the bike is at fault, or, the wrong colour.

Yes I know and this is quite a concern. I really wish the trike didn't have gears. Two brakes and an on off switch would be more than enough for her to contend with.

I saw loads of electric bikes at Ventoux. They were great, all-sorts riding. Much much faster at climbing all of our group up the mountain. Might get one for the wife on more challenging terrain

Sundays weather for the Oban Sportive, inclusive of 20 mph winds.

My question is - What should I wear? :rain:
