Ok should we give these a go.. haven't done any of them yet, not sure if anyone else has?
Colle di Sampeyre
Colle dell'Agnello
Colle della Lombarda
Colle della Fauniera
Col du Glandon

I haven't tried it myself yet, but this is the the route for the world time trial championships qualifying, which I will be attending next week. It should be a course where plain power is more important than Watt/kg.

You will need to complete it in something like 37 min. and 30 sec. to qualify if you're < 50 years old.
If you're unlucky to be in my age group (50-54 years), you will probably need to do it a minute faster.

Fauniera rings a bell but not the rest of them. I'll try to get these programmed in. What is your preference : 1 per week, or overlapping to give more time to complete?

Overlapping I guess if it easier for everyone?

Did my first race of a race series yesterday, and it turned out to be the toughest race I have ever done.

https://www.strava.com/activities/300247914

My tactics was to either put on the pressure on the hills, stay well in front and try to control the race, or just try to break free of the peloton. Maybe a little ambitious, since I'm a lone ranger up against teams of 7-10 riders.
I ended up doing all 3 tactics in the same race, and eventually got away with one other guy. For a long time it look like we were going to battle it out for a podium place, but this old mans leg just gave up on the last lap. Both legs cramped up and I told my breakout companion to go on. The peloton catch me with 4 km to finish, and I ended up loosing 2 minutes on these last 4 km. So place 18 of 28 may not sound impressive, but I'm really satisfied with my performance. Next time I think I will stay with just one of the above tactics :heat:
The winner was a girl, who recently won silver in the elite national championship.

Monte,
I'll try to beat your Cerro Molina ride tomorrow morning. Or I may try to beat Ricks Owd Betts time.
won't be too difficult to beat that Owd Betts time. That was my wife doing that!

Have a go at the cerro molina ride - it's a great route. However chase Rick's time, lol.
Really liked that route too Monte. I had it play up on me though. A lot of the time it was only displaying the road and no scenery. Still really enjoyed though. Had a good battle with a couple of Spanish ghosts. Set a veteran record for the course

Good news! The Mountain Goats League 5 has now been published. Should be live by tomorrow.

Stages are as picked by Darryn:

Colle di Sampeyre
Colle dell'Agnello
Colle della Lombarda
Colle della Fauniera
Col du Glandon

I'll probably give Sampeyre a go tomorrow although still got some aches and pains from a week ago.

Thanks for setting this up. Thanks Darryn for picking them out. Not surprised you're a little worn from the double devil ride. While poking around on Google I saw a photographer at the race who said he popped out of his van to take some pictures and was thankful he wasn't riding in it.

Yesterday I rode the Teide route and for the first 30 minutes my average power was 314 watts so I thought the Bkool system would recognise that and up my fitness level, however I kept doing the ride and my average then dropped back to around 250 watts and it didn't alter my level - should I have stopped at 30 minutes as per my fitness level.

Geoff,

It is almost a month. I hope your recovery is progressing, the withdrawal from the endorphins must have been rough.

Thanks, I am going a bit stir crazy today, having spent nearly four days recovering from a cerebral angiogram they gave me on Thursday. As they put a tube into my femoral artery in my groin I'm not allowed to walk, run, lift or bend for fear of starting an arterial bleed. They didn't find anything wrong, which is good I suppose, but that leaves me wondering where I go next ...

Really want to get back to some cycling before I lose all my fitness (and put back on all the weight I lost) but don't know if that would be wise. Doctor's all say that the exercise is great, but I suspect it will have to be very steady for quite a while. The KICKR should be handy as I can start by setting it to something like 100W erg mode and then gradually lift it over a period of weeks and months, and hopefully get some nice steady runs in outside, before the summer passes.

Would be great to get to the leagues in autumn, but not sure it would be wise

Geoff
