Actually no. I think it was Geoff who pointed out that in real life, on a flat section, keeping a constant max watt is the most efficient, due to the way air resistance works against you (squared). So, e.g. 1 hour at 250 watt should be more efficient than 30 min 200 watt + 30 min 300 watt.

Right. So from what you're saying any discrepancy in average watts should in reality be the other way round to what we're seeing if anything?

Yes, it would seem that way.
Maybe there's a delay in when air resistance kicks in, in the Bkool algorithm, thus making sprint/rest ride style advantageous?

this is starting to get confusing trying to figure out if my times r correct now LB or someone in the know r u able to look at last night ride and see if u think my time is correct but look at the spike on the watts on the chart sprint rest style ride

Just to be clear Rob I'm not suggesting there's anything wrong with your (or anyone else's) actual ride as such - just curious about the weird power data from Bkool. I don't expect the bkool to be hugely accurate, but logical and consistent would be nice!

You were fast on that ride Rob. Perhaps your unit is not giving you a fair power output but your speed could be correct. Same deal with your last mtn goat ride. You were quick but your power readout was low. Myself and a few others also ride the power on and off style so its not caused by that. something does appear to have changed recently though as you are now up near the front in both flattish and uphill league stages. This could be correct but there appears to be a data error somewhere, either too high a speed or too low a power reading. You could see how it goes and if you think there's a problem still, you could get bkool to dial into your unit and diagnose it.

bill the last mountain goat ride is wrong can u delete it or amend it when I do it again with the new time I'm far from a strong climber and no way I would beat you but I'm not to bad on the flattish rides (not at ur level) ive been through my history and the watts seam to have started to drop around mid November but in the real world I'm still improving. I would like to monitor my bkool ride more accurately and with this watts issue it make that difficult

I know ur not and I would never think that. all I get from this forum is help from the beginner to experienced rider all chip in we all have 1 goal that's to be the best we can

Thanks for arranging this, especially having to approve the rides I always got wrong.

When the next one starting - not that I really want it too of course.
No problem on the approvals -- the way I set things up made that worse than it normally would be.

As for the next start, targeting the 15th.

Did Chaingang last night (but late because real life got in the way) was going ok but then about 10 miles in got cramp. Seems to happen when I get a downhill bit where I pedal like mad and raise the cadence to about 120-130, limped on to the end after that, think there is a lesson in there that my legs have a max rpm.

Hi Rob, do u do the FTP tests routinely and if so does this show up any strange results?
